Breastfeeding Success Stories
From the Families We Serve

By blending compassionate, holistic support with physician-level care, breastfeeding and lactation medicine specialist Dr. Christina Thuet has helped parents across the Salt Lake City and Park City valleys accomplish their breastfeeding goals and nurture their growing families.

At Ella & Allo, Dr. Thuet welcomes every family, including those in the LGBTQ+ community, and empowers them with the knowledge to overcome the complex struggles of breastfeeding and their own self-doubt so they can confidently build an unbreakable bond with their new baby. Whether helping an adoptive mom induce lactation to breastfeed her newborn, guiding parents through the feeding challenges of a baby born prematurely, or providing breastfeeding support to moms of multiples, we want all families to experience breastfeeding success, however that may look to them.

We learned how to breastfeed our preemie after 24 days in the NICU.

My wife and I have had the good luck of having Dr. Thuet’s expert advice for both of our babies. Each of our babies were born premature, but the first required a NICU stay of a few weeks during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
Both times we have been amazed by Dr. Thuet’s knowledge of breastfeeding and infant care. She knows all the standards of care, but she also knows the history of the standards of care and the latest changes and the reasoning for those changes, and she knows how the US standards of care are different from other parts of the world.
Every time we asked her a question, I was immediately confident that her answer was backed with an ocean of knowledge and experience on the subject.
Our first baby spent 24 days in the NICU and could not attempt to breastfeed for a week. During that time my wife had other factors compromising her breastmilk supply; treatments for preeclampsia. All the while, the NICU only allowed one of us to visit our baby each day because of Covid-19. When my wife started trying to breastfeed him, it turned out there was plenty more that could go wrong.
It was a stressful time, but we had a rockstar doctor (Dr. Thuet) helping us know exactly what to do to make the best progress. In the NICU, he got donor milk, and we supplemented with formula early on until we got to a point where her production could keep up with him. We could even have a backup in the freezer. I can’t imagine doing it without Dr. Thuet’s help.
Baby number two was not so premature and did not require a NICU stay, and surely we knew what we were doing after baby number one… We still had many questions for Dr. Thuet and she kept on delivering the best advice.
We have had a simpler time breastfeeding, less stress, and better sleep because of her advice. Thank you Dr. Thuet!

Having a newborn rocked my world.

Dr. Thuet literally saved me! The first few weeks of having a newborn rocked my world. She dropped everything she was doing on a Sunday with her family just to come and sit by my side and show me exactly what I needed to be doing. This changed my breastfeeding journey, and I continued my journey for 13 months. I can’t thank her enough!

I needed support finding my way with all things: going back to work, latching, and managing my over supply.

I found Dr. Thuet through the lactation network during a time when I needed support with finding my way with all things going back to work, latching, feeling overwhelmed with my pumping schedule, and little did I know at the time – managing my over supply. After having mastitis twice, I was scared of my breast health and still had the hopes of getting my baby to latch. Mentally I was feeling overwhelmed, drained, and a whole slew of feelings I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Enter Dr. Thuet! After a phone consult where I was able to describe my situation without feeling rushed as one may in a hospital setting, she clearly laid out her services, specialties and expertise and how she could help me specifically. Coming to my house was a huge benefit and relief. Instantly I felt comfortable with her and supported by her. It felt so different to have someone with a lactation and breastfeeding focus- truly focus on me! and baby…rather than comparatively in other experiences, focus solely on baby. The plan we put together helped me think clearly through what we needed to address from a medical standpoint, while still having room to dream and make sub goals for latching and long term breast feeding if I so choose. Dr. Thuet is warm, nonjudgmental, humble, and experienced. Her threads of humor make her approachable and feel like she’s your a good friend. Breastfeeding is incredibly overwhelming as new parents…and she truly wants to help you and is passionate about doing so – I would recommend her services to any and all families here in Salt Lake. She will be a great support for you and your family!

I needed help getting my baby to latch.

I didn’t think that breastfeeding would be this difficult.   Even being in the medical field, we were surprised at how difficult it truly is and the lack of education we were provided on this incredibly important topic.   Like most people, we simply thought that we would eventually figure it out, but we just didn’t have the knowledge to know why we were failing.   Dr. Thuet was incredible at talking us through everything that goes into being able to successfully breastfeed our little one.
The techniques she taught us dramatically increased our success.  She was kind, supportive, and empathetic to what we were going through.  She ensured us that it was not our fault and that we just needed help with how to best get our little one to latch.   She is the best. Thank you Dr. Thuet!

I needed help navigating my baby’s slow weight gain.

I specifically chose Dr. Thuet as my son’s pediatrician because of her breastfeeding expertise. She was very supportive in my breastfeeding journey and was able to help my son and me navigate many difficulties, including his slow weight gain. Many pediatricians are quick to encourage formula supplementation, and while sometimes formula supplementation is the right choice, in our particular case, Dr. Thuet had the knowledge and expertise to allow us to continue exclusive breastfeeding safely under her care.
Dr. Thuet was also an invaluable resource when I was navigating going back to work at a demanding full-time job. My goal was to continue pumping to maintain full supply despite how busy work was, and she helped me navigate the logistics of how and when to pump at work and how to advocate for my time to pump at work.
I’ve had the unique opportunity to work with Dr. Thuet in a professional setting and be one of her patients. She’s detail-oriented and truly spends the extra time getting to know her patients. She’s passionate about supporting breastfeeding parents and has the expertise to back it up.
I’m very thankful for Dr. Thuet’s support. My son and I would not have had such a successful 2-year breastfeeding journey without her.

The first week breastfeeding was the most difficult week of my life.

I knew, without question, that I wanted to exclusively breastfeed my daughter if able. In preparation, I read books, research articles, blogs, and pamphlets, you name it. When we left the hospital with our little one, my partner and I had one session with a lactation nurse and a scheduled follow-up in 2 weeks. That first week proved to be one of the most difficult of our lives. My milk took longer to come in than expected, our baby’s weight was plummeting, and my partner and I felt like we were failing. We were unable to get into lactation support at the hospital. When my milk arrived just in time to avoid supplemental tube feeds, we faced an entirely new set of challenges. That’s when we found Dr. Thuet.
Utilizing Dr. Thuet’s compassionate, comprehensive services spared me, my partner, and my baby innumerable obstacles. She helped me navigate some of the most arduous, vulnerable days of my life as a newly minted mother. Together we navigated an overactive milk ejection reflex, oversupply, latch difficulty/technique, facilitating bonding, and PURPLE crying. My partner and I cannot express how invaluable her support and expertise was during those first few weeks.  We are forever grateful!

I struggled with low supply.

As a first-time mother to a NICU baby – I had a very difficult time establishing my milk supply.  I had to start my journey exclusively pumping until I was allowed to try to nurse my newborn when he was 1 week old.   Once I was able to latch my newborn, I struggled with severe nipple pain due to a poor latch that led to cracked nipples.  I suffered from a low milk supply, for which I was forced to supplement with formula.
As a mother, struggling to produce milk and breastfeed is physically exhausting but can also be emotionally devastating.  I reached a point when I considered stopping altogether due to the toll it was taking on me. Fortunately, I found the help of Dr. Thuet.  She helped me every step of the way to improve latching, educated me on proper nipple care and pumping/feeding methods to improve my milk production, and most importantly, provided support and encouragement through my struggles.
I was able to stop supplementing formula and even built up a freezer stash.  I will forever be grateful to Dr. Thuet for her expertise and guidance during such an important time.  Thank you!

Thank you so much!

I am so glad I made the decision to meet with Dr. Thuet today to create a game plan for pumping upon my return to work. I was extremely overwhelmed and anxious about pumping beforehand, and she talked me through everything I could need to know. She left both me & my partner set up for success to EBF our son once I’m back to work. Thank you so much!

Super grateful for her quick response and expertise!

I found Dr. Christina Thuet online late one night when I found myself super engorged following the birth of my second child. My 5 day old infant wasn’t able to latch on due to the engorgement and I was a bit panicked. I filled out a form online and she called me first thing in the morning and got me in for an emergency appointment! She expedited everything to make sure I was taken care of during this critical breastfeeding moment. Super grateful for her quick response and expertise. I learned so much during that initial consultation, saw immediate results, and easily made it through the engorgement period with my newborn.

Dr. Thuet was great!

Dr. Thuet was great!
The initial phone call was in the evening, definitely after traditional business hours but it was really helpful since I’m working. I really appreciated her coming to my home and evaluating me and my baby. I was hesitant to bother her by texting questions but she reached out to follow up and see how things were going so I felt comfortable texting my questions. With her help we made great progress with latching and weight gain!

Dr. Thuet changed our life!

If you are struggling with breast feeding – don’t suffer anymore MAKE THE CALL. I came across this practice while desperately googling in the middle of the night as I came to my wits end and almost gave up on breastfeeding due to struggles with nipple pain/damage, near constant feedings, etc. Dr. Thuet got me in the same day, did a thorough work up and gave me actionable changes that multiple visits to the hospital lactation specialists never could and then followed up closely to make sure we were succeeding. I didn’t believe it was possible – but within 5 days my nipples were healed and my baby and I were thriving breast feeding. I can’t overstate how essential it is to have a doctie trained specifically for this with the time to truly diagnose and fix what is wrong. Dr. Thuet changed our life and saved our breastfeeding journey.

Lara

I greatly appreciate Dr. Thuet’s approach!

While we just met Dr. Thuet for our initial consultation for some feeding challenges after discharge, we can already tell we are in very capable hands. As a healthcare professional, I greatly appreciate Dr. Thuet’s approach, which balances compassion with a pragmatic and evidence-based approach to helping our little family see a path to success with breastfeeding. Her experience and passion for her work was evident in our first phone call. Her unique combination of being a pediatrician who is also board certified in breastfeeding and lactation medicine gives her the clinical foundation to provide holistic care that addresses the needs of both the infant and the breastfeeding parent and she does so through accessible pathways of home visits and telemedicine, tailoring her approach to the needs of the family she is working with. After our first appointment, we felt all of our anxieties were validated and addressed, helping us regain confidence in caring for our little one and ourselves.

Update: If I could give Dr. Thuet more than 5 stars, I would. When it felt like breastfeeding wasn’t in the cards for us she worked with us for weeks to get supply up and to develop a sustainable plan. Without her guidance I’m not sure we would have ever been successful with breastfeeding. She has been an incredible resource for us every step of the way and I’m so grateful to her!

I loved my experience with Dr. Thuet!

I loved my experience with Dr. Thuet. She guided me through building up my supply, weaning off formula, and maintaining supply.

I’ve gone to other lactation consultants and received very “one-size-fits-all” recommendations that didn’t work for my specific situation. Dr. Thuet personalized my plan based on my history and thoughtful questions, and now I feel confident in the breastfeeding journey I have ahead of me.

Dru

Dr. Thuet was truly an incredible asset during my breastfeeding journey!

Dr. Thuet was truly an incredible asset during my breastfeeding journey. She helped us increase supply through a short stay in the NICU, where we were advised to do mostly bottle feeds. She was non-judgmental when I made the decision at one month to strictly pump.

Dr. Thuet also stressed the importance of taking care of my own health. While most neurologists and OB’s give very cautious recommendations on use of migraine medications while breastfeeding, Dr Thuet reviewed the medications I take and reassured me of their safety. This really helped to prolong my breastfeeding journey.

She also was very helpful when I transitioned back to work, helping to tailor my schedule in order to allow myself sufficient pump breaks.

Dr Thuet was compassionate, knowledgeable and incredibly patient. You can tell immediately she is truly passionate about a family’s postpartum breastfeeding journey, however it may look.

Dr. Thuet is amazing! I would highly recommend working with her if you have any problems with lactation. She takes the time to listen to your concerns and works with you to create a plan that is sustainable. My insurance didn’t cover, so I paid full price out of pocket and it was worth it. She’s easy to get ahold of and answers any questions or concerns you have.

Alexis

She gave me a plan and resources and I feel very supported moving forward!

I met with Dr. Thuet for a prenatal appointment. I’m having my third kid and didn’t have a successful breastfeeding experience. Meeting with Dr. Thuet gave me hope that my experience this time around can be so much better. She gave me a plan and resources and I feel very supported moving forward. She took so much time to teach me and I look forward to working with her more after my baby is born.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Thuet!

Dr. Thuet has been indispensable during the first few months with our daughter. She meets us right where we are and thoughtfully explains options and the reasoning behind them. We have never felt rushed or pressured; rather, we’ve felt fully supported every step of the way. Our experience changed drastically for the better as soon as she became part of our care team. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Thuet and recommend her to anyone with a little one on the way regardless of how prepared you feel. She is wise, caring, and warm and will benefit any family she works with.
